My thoughts on asimilation

 Should students give up their cultural identity (or parts of it) when in a new environment? Why or why not?

Students should not give up their cultural identity whatsoever when in a new environment because it’s what makes you unique. I think that the differences we have from others is what makes us interesting or want to learn more about each other. If all of us had the same or tried to interpret that we were all the same including cultural background then conversations wouldn’t really be interesting either as everyone would know the same thing and no one would want to learn about anything else. Another reason why I believe that students should not give up their cultural identity is because culture is a big thing for a lot of families and individuals and if they see a family member wanting to abandon that it would create problems. A lot of people feel left out if they see no one with the same cultural background but I think that diversity is a beautiful thing especially in the United States. The United States has a lot of diversity and lots of different cultures all over the place and that way it gives us a way to learn about different cultures and how these people live differently from other cultures.
