 Should students give up their cultural identity (or parts of it) when in a new environment? Why or why not? Students should not give up their cultural identity whatsoever when in a new environment because it’s what makes you unique. I think that the differences we have from others is what makes us interesting or want to learn more about each other. If all of us had the same or tried to interpret that we were all the same including cultural background then conversations wouldn’t really be interesting either as everyone would know the same thing and no one would want to learn about anything else. Another reason why I believe that students should not give up their cultural identity is because culture is a big thing for a lot of families and individuals and if they see a family member wanting to abandon that it would create problems. A lot of people feel left out if they see no one with the same cultural background but I think that diversity is a beautiful thing especially in the Unit...

In Colombia the types of foods we eat are mainly grain. For example, we have “buñuelos” which is made out of a dough and put to fry. This is a typical Colombian dish and what people mainly eat for breakfast. Breakfast is considered a very important meal in Colombia and therefore we have big breakfasts at times. For example, we also have “calentado” which is kind of like leftovers from the previous night and their given for breakfast with an “arepa”.  This leads me to my next grain breakfast, corn cakes, these go with anything you would like. Such as, eggs bread or even “calentado”. Corn cakes are more of like a side dish that go with anything that your eating including dinner. The reason why we eat a lot of grain or corn cakes its because we grow a lot of grain and corn. Its one of the main food supplies of Colombia.
